Antique Herringbone Band Pattern Oil Lamp-Vintage 1880-1900-Slight Amethyst Tint to Glass-Ready to Use

Out of stock
This listing is for an elegant antique oil lamp in the all over Herringbone Band pattern with a slight tint of amethyst to the color of the glass. This tint is cause when a flint glass lamp sits in direct sunlight over a long period of time, perhaps in a window. A picture of a lamp with this exact “Herringbone Band” pattern in shown in the book “Oil Lamps-The Kerosene Era in North America” by Catherine M.V. Thuro on page 286, middle of the page, far left, (fig. c) in the book section devoted to lamps from 1880-1900. This is a 2 piece lamp with the font made in a 2 piece mold and the base made in a 3 piece mold. The collar is an early common brass collar dating this lamp from the late 1880’s or early part of the century ….threads are good, no cracks and it is attached tightly to the base. We did have to reset it, but it was done in the old fashioned way using plaster of Paris. There is an old #1 brass burner marked “Queen Anne No. 1″ on the flange. I did have to polish both the collar and burner due to loss of patina during cleaning. Now they will dull down and create a new even patina with some time. The chimney is an old beaded top chimney that may not be as old as the lamp, but looks stunning. The lamp measures about 9″ tall to the top of the base not including the burner and 4 1/2″ across the base. The chimney is 7 1/2″ tall. The overall height of the lamp assembled is about 17” tall.
Condition is very good. There are no chips, flakes and no cracks. There are no problems with this lamp. The burner screws in and out easily and works and there is a new wick in it that moves up and down easily as well…..all you need to do is fill this lamp with lamp oil and light it. Great item for when the lights go out at home during a storm…..these make very elegant and special gifts as well. They are also just wonderful to use….romantic and chic! This is a beautiful elegant lamp probably from the late 1800’s….great piece to add to any collection and ready to use again!
