Gimballed Nautical Brass Oil Lamp

This stylish brass ship’s lamp was designed by Ilse D. Ammonsen for Daproma Denmark in the 1950s. The base is engraved with the designer’s name and has the Daproma Design label. It features a gimball for use onboard a ship and is height adjustable between 21 and 27 cm. This lamp is made to precise engineering accuracy of 1/100 mm. The base has the legend ‘Valtor Offshore’ engraved around it, a Danish offshore company which was established in the early 1980s. This is a marvelous piece of maritime history and a wonderful conjunction of form and function.

Condition

This lamp is in fine vintage condition. It has not been cleaned and has a fine patina. There are some slight scuff marks as to be expected from an item of this vintage. All parts are in perfect working order, including the wick and spring mechanism. Photos and video form part of the description. Additional photos available should you require.
